In the Beginning
Originally from the East Coast, our founder, Gene Magre, moved to Salt Lake City in the early 70s. Construction and older homes became his passion and when he relocated to San Diego in 1983 he became a general contractor working exclusively in Rancho Santa Fe. Business was booming for Gene and his company until the workers comp rates got so high that he couldn't continue to operate profitably in California. He eventually had to close parts of the construction business, but not before he developed a revolutionary idea which he realized could help businesses that were paying exorbitantly high workers comp rates.
After six months of investigation and lots of questions with answers from former Insurance Commissioners in the State of California, Gene determined that ownership in corporations, and the pride that comes with ownership could be the answer to the dangerously flawed workers comp system in our state. He formed a new company, ConAPA, Inc., and pursued the largest and most powerful insurance companies in America to support the concept of safety education and legal protection to offset the imperfect workers comp establishment.
Through various partnerships with companies like Blue Cross, Kaiser Permanente, Aetna and The Guardian Life and Disability Company, ConAPA provides unique coverage for the owners of small companies. To date, millions of dollars have been kept in the hands of small business owners, allowing them to grow their business and retain key employees. From assisted living facilities to contractors, and horse trainers to moving and storage operators, ConAPA is committed to helping small business owners succeed while they chart themselves through the rough waters of these new business times.
